Recently we've noticed some great alternatives to traditional security systems that are renter friendly, fully removable, inexpensive and easily integrated with your tech.

#1 iSmartAlarm

The iSmartAlarm is a plug-in, self monitored security system. Its installed by the purchaser, and then an app on your smart phone allows further customization. It can be set to monitor who comes and goes from the home and can send a text or other notification to you if unexpected activity occurs. Systems start at $200, but have no contracts, no activation fees and no monitoring fees.

#2 Abode

According to their website: "abode is a beautiful, easy to install, professional-grade security solution without the hassles of conventional security systems....abode gives your home a major upgrade by connecting to lights, locks, thermostats, garage door openers, and many other types of devices to allow you to automate and control them with ease." Packages start at $349 and have no contracts or activation fees. professional monitoring can be added for an up charge.

#3 Arlo

Arlo is " The world’s first and only 100% wire-free, weatherproof, rechargeable HD smart security camera with audio and 130° viewing angle" (Arlo.com). Base pricing starts at $919-471-2007 but can go much higher with the purchase of additional cameras. Professional monitoring can be added with an up charge service through SmartThings/ADT.

All of three of these systems can be easily integrated with your smart phone via an app and IFTT options. They are easy to use, remove and make for an excellent security option for the tech savvy, cost conscious renter.
