Doug grew up in Asheville and graduated from the Asheville City School system. He then attended East Carolina University and was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, and studied Appraisal of Real Estate at Wake Forest University. He had a successful career in commercial, retail and mortgage banking as a Manager in Asheville and WNC before entering the real estate profession in 1977. From 1977 to 2001 he owned and operated his own real estate company. Doug has been a stellar member of the Asheville Board of Realtors and the North Carolina Association of Realtors and has earned many accolades for his many contributions to these professional real estate trade organizations as well as the mortgage banking industry. He was awarded the “Realtor of the Year” award, and was instrumental in the start up of the Asheville Boards Real Estate Weekly real estate publication. His volunteer work titles are too numerous to mention, however some of them include: serving on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Association of Realtors and as Regional Vice President of the organization, Director of the North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and the Board of Directors for the Fair Housing Commission of Asheville. He is also an Honorary Lifetime Member of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce.
